Cost=1W/1C, Vps=1, Prereq=none When you play this card, every player must place 1 Occupation from their hand face up on the board. Add random Occupations from the deck until there are 5. Whenever any player plays an Occupation, that player may play 1 of these Occupations instead of 1 from their hand. If so,you get any Food paid. [View playtest games] [View all dealt games] |

Very interesting. So I could play an Occupation that another player set aside? | Dec 8, 2010 9:49pm [quote] |

Yes, that's kind of the point of the card. | Dec 8, 2010 10:45pm [quote] |

A)Increase the amount of cards set aside, 2 per player?, Cards from outside the game?(Probably the best option and the easiest to tweak) B)Make the set aside cards random(I don't like this option, someone losing a good occ that was part of their plan would feel cheated) C)Create an incentive to players to have their card taken by another player(Would be hard to make enough of an incentive to give a useful occ to another player) D)Accept that it is a card that gives a point and might have a random effect on the game |
Of all the cards I designed this one got in, I think it needs a lot of work. Ideally this card should actually cause interesting cards from other player's hands to end up in front of a player that can use them. In practice most players will have a completely undesirable occ. Which leaves us 4 paths to take with this card:Dec 30, 2010 7:25pm [quote] (Edit: Dec 30, 2010 7:27pm) |

Here are some additional suggestions: (1) Once during the game, you can pay 1 Stone to add this card back to your hand. (or some other cost like 2 Food or 2 Wood, etc.) (2) Immediately afterward, you may play 1 of the face up Occupations (at the very least, you could play your own) (3) Immediately afterward, every other play must show everyone their remaining Occupations. (very interesting, especially in non-draft games) (4) Each player sets aside 2 and you pick 1 to go back into their hand and 1 to stay on the table. (a variation of your A1) (5) Each player sets aside 2 and the player to their left picks 1 to go back into their hand and 1 to stay on the table (another variation with lots of interaction.) (6) If an Occupation gets played, the owner of the Occupation receives 2 Wood and you receive 1 Wood and the Food used to play the Occupation. (an instance of your C) |
Isaratio, all of your suggestions are good ones (except i don't like B), but we should play test this card as is in some games first before we judge it too quickly. Regarding set aside Occupations, remember, "another person's garbage is someone else's treasure". Dec 31, 2010 5:45am [quote] (Edit: Dec 31, 2010 6:38am) |

i think the effect is fine and should not be changed. add another VP if you want to increase the chance of it being played. lets test it this way. | Jan 2, 2011 3:33am [quote] |

http://play-agricola.com/Agricola/GameLogs/allturnserver.php?x=63829 You need to change the first sentence to "Each player must set aside..." |
We just play tested this. Jingking played it in round 9, he had educator, and keith had advisor. Jing set aside Net Fisherman, i set aside Stableman, keith Lady in Waiting, and hunter Renovator. Jing played stableman off the board later. Nothing too exciting, we need to play some more games to see some other results.Jan 2, 2011 2:32pm [quote] (Edit: Jan 2, 2011 3:02pm) |

since every player will just put down his worst occupation (or an occupation that is unplayable, like Hut Builder after Stage 1). I'd get rid of the stone cost so it can be played earlier-- just 1 clay, or maybe 1 clay and 1 wood. Maybe force each player to put down two occupations? |
I don't see this as getting much use,Jan 2, 2011 5:03pm [quote] |

I'm sure this card is fine at 1S or 1W1C or 2C or 2W if we want to change the cost. Putting down 2 Occupations is a good idea although a few might balk at the idea of losing "that much" of their hand. One fault of this card is that the player playing it rarely gets the first chance to use it. |

yes, another idea would be to allow the player to play one of these occupations immediately (for free, but balance costs to play the card accordingly) | Jan 3, 2011 3:40am [quote] |
