Starting from next round, you cannot take actions with 1 of your Family members. At the end of the game, you receive 2 Bonus Points for every round after playing this card, including the current round. [View playtest games] [View all dealt games] |

The idea behind this card is to give up some turns towards the end of the game in return for bonus points. Every turn given up by the retired family member is worth 2 bonus points. | May 23, 2011 3:44am [quote] |

I don't think you really need the "On or before Round 12" restriction. | May 23, 2011 7:46am [quote] |

Does playing the occupation count as "retiring" so you get credit for that round? Or do you only start collecting the points at the end of the next round? How does this interact with the Clockmaker? Can you get 2 points for each Round 14? Can I choose to retire the person living in the Reed Hut and then take a Family Growth action to move him into my house? If I do, is he still retired? If not, do I still get retirement points? Suppose somebody were to invent a future card that allowed you to do something if you didn't place a family member in a given round; would having a retired family member qualify for that card's benefits? |
Interesting. I assume that you still have to house and feed that family member? And that you still get 3 points for it?May 23, 2011 7:58pm [quote] |

You only start collecting points from the next round onwards. For the Clockmaker, I would say yes, since that constitutes an extra round. As for the Reed Hut, that person is technically not part of the family until the Family Growth action is taken and he is moved into the house. As such, he cannot be retired. As for your final question, I would say yes, he can qualify for that future card's benefits. Let me use a counterexample to explain this. If someone had played Church Warden, then the player with Retiree will not qualify for the 3 bonus points even if his family is 5 strong at the beginning of Round 14. This is because one of them is retired. |

I still have a problem with rhentzel's last question. I don't think that is clear. If I have Hired helpers and I hire in the same turn that I play this card, do I have one less move next round or 2 less moves? Same question if somebody plays Ratcacher. |
Nice card. Replace "from hereon" with "from next round on". It's clearer.May 24, 2011 2:01pm [quote] |

My suggestion: In the Return Home phase of the round you play Retiree, place a family member on this card. You cannot take actions with this family member until the end of the game, but it must still be fed. At the end of the game you receive 2 Bonus Points for each round, in which you had a family member on Retiree at the start of that round. It is a Tavern or Clay Deposit, which only you can use and have to use each round. |
It would be helpful if you use agricola language and not introduce a new term: retire a person. It can be misunderstood.Jun 6, 2011 5:47am [quote] (Edit: Jun 6, 2011 5:48am) |
