Cost=1H, Vps=0, Prereq=none When you play this card, you receive 1 Wild boar. You may keep 1 Wild boar in each of your pastures that hold Sheep. (Pastures can still only hold the normal amount of animals). [View playtest games] [View all dealt games] |

Why "before scoring"? Why not "At the end of the game"? | May 24, 2011 11:27am [quote] |

- the card is not passing (you keep it) AND - you can keep boars and sheep in the same pasture AND - you get bonus points for that. |
This is very strong. Compared to Cattle market, you pay the same (one sheep) and you get a different animal (boar not cattle). But then,May 24, 2011 1:26pm [quote] |

It does seem like it might lead to arguments about theme (maybe not among us, but in some play groups) since the black cube is apparently supposed to represent a black sheep but is still a wild board for the purpose of game mechanics. If my pasture is at maximum capacity with sheep, can I still keep a wild boar in it as well? I assume not, but I'm not 100% certain of that interpretation. |
This card didn't strike me as that strong when I read it, but maybe I'm not thinking about how I could alter my animal collection strategy to really take advantage of it.May 24, 2011 1:58pm [quote] |

Hala's strength issue is true. I didn't think of it. For now, I'll remove the bonus points. I'll also clarify that if a pasture is at maximum capacity, you cannot fit more sheep in it. |
Thematically, the name Black Sheep is intended to be more of a pun than a description. One, wild boars look like black sheep with the original agricola pieces. Two, "black sheep" is a phrase that means something that doesn't fit in, and a wild boar doesn't fit in with sheep.May 24, 2011 2:31pm [quote] |

Quote from: slim on May 24, 2011 2:31pm Two, "black sheep" is a phrase that means something that doesn't fit in, and a wild boar doesn't fit in with sheep. I would say that "black sheep" has a narrower meaning than that; it's not just something that doesn't fit in (like, say, a doll on a woodpile), but specifically a disreputable or scandal-tainted person (who would otherwise fit in, except for past behavior). As such, the only thing that I see that this title has going for it is the pun, and I think that could--conceivably--lead to confusion. Having removed the bonus points, this just doesn't seem that great to me. Upgrading a sheep to a boar isn't too bad, I guess, but the really interesting effect--keeping boar in a sheep pasture--just doesn't seem that useful. I suspect that I'd only play this for the boar-for-sheep exchange. More precisely, if I have two pastures, I think I'd just put the sheep in one and boar in the other (and keep my cattle in my house). If I don't have two pastures, I think it's unlikely that the 2 points from having a boar is going to save me (though I admit that it could). |

Yea I agree with you. I actually didn't this card would get this highly voted! It was really just supposed to be a joke card, until Brothers before Hoes came and blew it out of the water lol. | Jun 1, 2011 2:33pm [quote] |

You may keep 1 wild boar in each of your pastures that hold sheep or cattle. This should stay with the new theme (Foilage Hut), while making the card a lot more useful late game. |
Well since this card apparently made the cut, despite the pun being removed, I am making a slight revision to power it up and make it more playable under its new name:Feb 21, 2013 3:01am [quote] (Edit: Feb 21, 2013 5:41pm) |

-While it was well-liked, the play rate is abysmal (my preference is around 1 in 4 excluding solos for a card like this, not 1 in 6). -I have been absent for over a year, and I have been unable to make balance adjustments to the cards that many others have. -Adding cattle seems like a practical change that has no impact and even supports the new theme. I was resistant to changes before because I didn't want to impact the "Black Sheep" theme. However, I will change it back to how it was because of your comment. Perhaps, I have been over-eager in tweaking these cards now that I am back. However, I still like the idea of including cattle in the card now that the name is Foilage Hut. What do others think? |
The reason I changed it is 3-fold:Feb 22, 2013 7:23am [quote] |
