I'm not sure if this is different enough to Rancher. Now you only need to worry about harvest rounds, not every round and it's more flexible as you're not limited to wood. I would at least remove the bonus points. Why should the apprentice get those when the rancher does not?

This does not even really reward early farm development as most of the payout comes late (only 2 early harvests).

There are 14 rounds, but only 13 available spaces. Unless you are using a farm extension card, only 13 wood possible. tacticus

What's to prevent someone from playing this around Round 12 right when they plan to fence / get serious about plowing? inoshishi

Yes, as is, its too strong. I would remove all the placing Wood on this card stuff and just say:

"At the end of each round that you reduced the number of your Unused farmyard spaces, you receive 1 Wood."

The original number 14 means the 14 rounds. Indeed there are only 13 spaces but the wood disappears as time goes by since it is almost impossible to use an unused space every round, which means you have no possibility to receive all the wood not matter 14,15,or even 16 wood on this card. The larger number it is, the more buffering rounds you have.

Anyway, Inoshishi's concern is apt. So I accept chris's revision and change it to 1+ occupation. Then, how many wood is a player supposed to receive? Maybe 7-9, I think. The more actions you spend on "Plow", "Fences", "Extend a Room," the more wood you receive. Thanks, tacticus, inoshishi and chris.

Despite trying hard, I still have not yet received a chance to play this with Field Enthusiastic. Today I drafted the combo but got destroyed due to not getting to play occs for 2 first rounds.

At least this one alone has the possibility of being playable later as well.

Rune_, don't you wish you had had College Tuition?

This is a really nice updated version of the card.

I think it's not strong enough as it is now. Maybe you should add something like: if you reduce it with 2 or more, you also receive 1 food. hala

With the food bonus, I think this card is great. I played it in round ~9 in a 5er just to get a little more wood (and Reeve was in play), and I got ~3 wood and ~2f from this card. Perfectly nice for a late occ, and I could have played it sooner to get even more. I also appreciate how it encourages slow and steady progress.

There was a little debate about this situation:
1st peep: Plow a field
2nd peep: Play Rancher's Apprentice

Do I get 1w or not at the end of the round? I believe the answer is yes, and should be yes, but it's worth checking. All the players in the game agreed that the answer is yes, so I don't think anything needs to change with the card text, but perhaps it's something to note for the compendium.
