The german text says that you have to return the vegetable at any point up until the final scoring. So you can give it up earlier too.

Shouldn't you receive the beggars immediately, marked with a veg, to be paid off whenever. This isn't really clear on the card.		 cunning

The card technically doesn't give you Beggars until the end of the game, so it does seem to be able to give infinite Food. I believe as a compendium fix, we should say it gives Beggars immediately.		 chris

IMO, I think its clear that you must convert borrowed Vegetables into Food.
