Thanks Nwoll

The name could also simply be "Insulation," though I wanted to make it clear that it comes from your sheep (and wool insulation is still used today). But the name can be changed - I'm on the fence about it.

It's patterned after Straw-Thatched Roof in that you can use wool instead of reed to help support your roof (and keep your house warm). It doesn't, however, allow reed-free extensions, which I think is both thematic and a good game mechanic, because it's easier to have 4 sheep early than to have 3 grain fields.

I could drop the prereq to 3 sheep, which would make it considerably easier to play (2 sheep in a single pasture or 2 stables plus 1 in your house). What do people think?

if you reduce the requirement i think you should also consider dropping the point. 2 reed isn't much, but - contrary to reed exchange - it's for free. letsdance

Yes, but you can use the reed from reed exchange to extend your house (sp+reed exchange/br). I think 3 sheep + 1VP is still fine, but you could also leave it at 4 sheep. makun

I played this card the other day, and it sort of messed me up because I thought it also discounted reed on rooms (like Straw Thatched Roof)--which gave me an idea...

As is, this card is pretty boring: auto-play in the mid or late-game, for 1 point and 1-2 reed. What if you made it like a parallel Straw Thatched Roof, but for an animal strategy instead of a grain strategy?

Proposed alternate card--
Prerequisite: 5 sheep
You no longer need Reed when extending or renovating your home.

That's not a bad idea. The card wasn't made to be flashy, but it could become one if we adopted Jamacian's idea. What do others think?

Edit: it would make the card awfully similar to Humble Shepherd, however.

I'd rather see it give a reed discount on minors as well. Something like "You pay 1 reed less when renovating or playing any Minor Improvement with a printed cost of at least 1 Reed an 1 other building resource."

Looking through the improvements, I think most of them would make sense with that wording; the big offender would be the Basketmaker's Workshop, but that's a major improvement and thus wouldn't count.
