Each time another player uses the "Take 1 Reed" accumulation space, you can build a room: if you build a clay/stone room, you receive a discount of 1 clay/2 stone. [View playtest games] [View all dealt games] |

I said yes (because the card is horrible otherwise) but the other 3 players thought no, in a recent game. |
Do you get the discount if you build a room in a different way? Aug 22, 2017 10:58am [quote] |

1) build room when another player uses the 1r spot; 2) receive a discount on clay and stone rooms. If you compare the wording of Riparian Builder with for instance Heiress. It becomes even more obvious. |
I would say YES. The card can be divided into two mutually exclusive functions in my opinion: Aug 22, 2017 6:10pm [quote] |

I will be playing it that way in my games. So new wording perhaps: "Each time you build a clay/stone room you may pay 1clay/2stone less. Each time another player uses the "Take 1 Reed" action space you may build 1 room." |
I don't think it's obvious, but I do like that better. Aug 24, 2017 5:20pm [quote] |

Since the last clause follows a colon and is not a new sentence, I would say that you only get the discount if you build a room when another player takes 1 Reed.Aug 26, 2017 5:57pm [quote] (Edit: Aug 26, 2017 5:57pm) |

That card makes it very clear as to whether the discount works on a normal build action. So we see what text is used to communicate that intent and it's not the text on Riparian Builder. (Or the people who chose the wording on the new cards are idiots) |
I disagree based on this card: Aug 29, 2017 3:52pm [quote] (Edit: Aug 29, 2017 3:53pm) |

The placement of a colon is weird anyway. A simple dot (.) to mark the end of a sentence, or a semi-colon ( to add an extra function to this card would be preferred in my opinion. |

It's certainly worded poorly and I agree it can be interpreted either way. Too bad they didn't write "whenever" instead of "if", if that was their intent. | Aug 30, 2017 4:41pm [quote] |
